Prosthetic Socket Technology

What is a prosthetic socket:

The prosthetic socket is the part where your residual limb (stump ) fits into.

At Roger Wolfson and Associates, we understand that the most important part of any prosthesis, is the prosthetic socket (that is where the residual limb (stump) fits into).

We  are in the forefront of socket technology; which means that no matter what components you have attached to your socket, our dedication and passion will be the same, when we are working on your prosthesis.

Whether you have the most economical components, or the most advanced components, your comfort, mobility and pathway to rehabilitation, will be assured.

Of all prosthetic components, the knee system is arguably the most complex. It must provide reliable support when standing, allow smooth, controlled motion when walking, and permit unrestricted movement for sitting, bending and kneeling. Prosthetic knees have evolved greatly over time, from the simple pendulum of the 1600s to those regulated by rubber bands and springs or pneumatic or hydraulic components.

An amputation, especially at any level below the knee does not usually present a particularly disabling condition. With modern prosthesis and treatment methods, below knee amputees who have no complicating medical problems can do most of the things he or she could do before the amputation.

Upper Limb Prostheses

Prosthetic arms can be inert or body-powered. The inert type has only a cosmetic function and is not activated. A body-powered prosthesis uses some existing body motion to activate a device. The most common is the shoulder harness used to activate an arm or hand.

Is your prosthesis hurting you? Are you walking with difficulty?

They are a number of different types of amputations but the two levels of amputation that are carried out the most are below the knee amputation, (trance tibial) and the above the knee amputation (trance femoral)

But whatever your level of amputation you definitely don’t need to walk around in pain your prosthetist must fix it up a prosthetist is a highly skilled professional that will be able to diagnose and fix your problem.
